Twitter has changed how people receive information, but I believe it has also changed how we can receive transformation. I’m amazed at the number of great quotes, spiritual thoughts, and insights come my way each day. Receiving those is a big part of why I started writing “First Thoughts.”
While there are a lot of great pastors out there worth following, here are some that feed my soul on a regular basis.
I’m pretty sure these guys haven’t been on the same short list together before now…As you will see, the diversity of my friends is part of why I do what I do. Part of why I list them is that I’ve gotten to spend time with each of them. While their theologies differ, I know their hearts. And these are people of God.
I hope that by following them, you are fed as well.
- Rick Warren (@rickwarren) – Pastor of Saddleback, Author of Purpose Driven Life. Launcher of a movement. History will remember this man.
- John Piper (@johnpiper) – Pastor. Leader of Desiring God. John has blessed many with his thoughtful approach to systematic, biblical thinking.
- Bishop Eddie Long (@bishopeddielong). Pastor of NewBirth Church in Atlanta. Outstanding preacher, leader, and tweeter.
- Joel Osteen (@joelosteenmin) – Pastor of Lakewood church. Most watched inspirational speaker on television. Say whatever you want about theology, Joel pumps faith into people that follow his tweets. They will encourage your soul. He’s a winner of a guy and friend.
- Chris Hodges (@Chris_Hodges) – Pastor of Church of the Highlands. Chris’s church has been named one of the fastest growing in America (and was the fastest last year). A heart for God with good things to say.
- Larry Stockstill (@larrystockstill) – Pastor of Bethany World Prayer Center. While an outstanding pastor in his own, this is the man behind men, and a leader of leaders. Few know that both Rick Bezet and Chris Hodges served under and were mentored by Brother Larry before launching their churches (and later the Association of Related Churches on the same day. Rick’s church is now the fastest growing in America. Brother Larry’s commitment to training leaders in his church and the church worldwide has made a big impact. And, he’s a super guy.
- Jason Gerdes (@pastorjgerdes) – This is a young guy you don’t know, but need to. And sooner or later, you will. Jason teaches and leads student ministries at Bay Area Fellowship, serving under the outstanding mentoring and leadership of Bil Cornelius. Superb young leader.
- Steven Furtick (@stevenfurtick) – Probably the best leader under 30 I know. This man speaks faith into the hearts of those around him. Pastor Steven’s church, Elevation, is one of the fastest growing in America, and will almost certainly leave a mark worth noting.
- Perry Noble – (@perrynoble) – If you haven’t followed NewSpring Church, you should. Perry’s church has 10,000+ in attendance, and is based in Anderson, SC, a town of less than 100,000 (that would be like a church of 500,000 in Houston!). The only valid critique of Perry I’ve heard is from my family in Anderson who says he has singlehandedly ruined Sunday traffic in town….If you don’t want blunt, to the point, spiritual advice, don’t follow Perry.
I could go on and on, but will stop and ask you…..who should be the tenth on this list?
Who do you follow on Twitter that would feed my soul?

Just found your blog via Twitter. I check out some of these on your list as well as the following:
@pwilson (Pete Wilson, Crosspoint Church)
@justindavis33 (Justin Davis, also at Crosspoint)
@robsrandom (Not a pastor, but he blogs daily and is encouraging to read)
Thank you for the information. It is always nice to add new tweeps. How about these guys.
